LEGO STAR WARS

General Veers, prepare your men! What and amazing set this is and what a challenge it presented to capture it in a way that resembled how it was seen in The Empire Strikes Back. Creating the ice world of Hoth was the first challenge. Many pounds of baking powder were used to simulate the snow covered tundra. Each mound of snow was carefully sculpted to resemble a windswept world of ice. Mountains were constructed from black construction paper supported by card board frames to recreate the ice capped mountain peaks in the background. But all of this detail of the landscape would not prove legitimate unless the vehicle was shot in a way that make it feel like it belonged. I used a very wide lens to create a sense of scale and make the At-At seem larger than life. Not too difficult given the size of the set was pushing two feet in height. Overall the finished recalls a happy memory from my childhood as I watch the real thing walk on screen.
